WHO I AM:
When I was 5, I was convinced I could fly. I used to jump off the roof of the car, madly flapping my arms, and inevitably landing on the grass with a thud. Yeah, I know. I was a weird kid.
One day I expressed my confusion to my father and asked him to help me learn to fly. He listened to my concern and then said, “Look at your arms. Do they look like bird or airplane wings?” “No”, I admitted. Â He explained to me that no matter how much I wanted to fly, or how much I practiced, I was probably not going to get off the ground on my own. “If you want to fly, you need something that already is made to fly – like an airplane.”
The life lesson I learned was that
1) sometimes we need to ask for help to achieve our goal and
2) this often involves getting the right tool for the job.
