What follows is a summary of the areas of law I practice and what sorts of real-life situations I can help you resolve.

PRACTICE AREAS

  • WRITE & REVIEW CONTRACTS – Just about every transaction – from buying a car to purchasing services – involves a contract.  One of the most important things you can do is make sure whatever you agree to is in writing with no loopholes that won’t be to your benefit.  We will be happy to provide you with a contract that’s done correctly and written in plain English.  We can also review a contract that someone else wants you to sign to make sure there’s no “gotcha” language and that it says what it is supposed to say.
  • GET BACK GARNISHED WAGES AFTER BANKRUPTCY  –  If you filed bankruptcy and had more than $600 garnished in the 90 days before your filing date, you might be able to get that money back!
  • ENFORCE JUDGMENTS – INCLUDING SMALL CLAIMS –  So you went to court and you won.  Yay!  But now what?  How do you get your money if the defendant doesn’t just write you a check on the spot?  No problem.  We can help you collect what you won in court.
  • UNCONTESTED FAMILY LAW – Family law isn’t always a sad event like a divorce where the parties spend time and money battling each other in court. Sometimes people just realize they don’t want to be married anymore and can part without a lot of anger.  If two people agree that it’s time to end the marriage, we can help you file the correct paperwork to achieve that.  We also assist people with happier family law cases like step-parent adoptions.
  • BASIC ESTATE PLANNING – It’s not usually something we like to think about, but it’s very important just the same. We can provide you with basic estate planning tools like wills, living trusts, powers of attorney for healthcare and finances, and living wills to make sure your wishes are honored regarding the medical care you want (and don’t want) should you become unable to speak for yourself.
  • SMALL BUSINESS LAW –  Starting a new business (or buying or selling an existing one) is very paperwork intensive.  There are also a lot of things to consider to make sure you have a solid deal that is going to be in your best interest.   You will also need to think about what kind of business structure (LLC, corporation, sole proprietorship) makes the most sense for what you want to accomplish.  We are able to answer your questions, draw up the necessary paperwork, and make sure you have a successful outcome.
  • REAL ESTATE CLOSING REVIEW  Most people use a title company for the closing when you buy or sell a piece of property.  However, a title company (or real estate agent) cannot give you any advice about how you should hold title, explain what CC&Rs mean in the real world, tell you how an easement may affect the property, interpret zoning regulations, etc.  All those things are extremely important to know before you make what may be one of the largest investments of your life.  Also, as occurs in any large industry, mistakes happen.  Sometimes a mistake on the documents can cause you a major headache down the road.  Considering how much time and money you are spending on a property purchase, doesn’t it make sense to have another pair of experienced eyes look over everything before you sign it – for a fraction of the amount you have already spent?

If you are the seller, then you want to make sure that the terms of the sale you have agreed upon are clearly written in the documents so you will receive the proceeds from the sale how and when you want it.
